Epossums was chosen for the name of this blog because ‘possum’ is a common term used in Australia and often by my female relatives as a term of endearment. Electronic possums abbreviated to epossums was therefore a logical extension of this. I started blogging to practise writing and also because I had developed a habit of writing little stories and sending them to my friends on email. “You should start a blog”, my girlfriend Cara said one day after reading my third or fourth such story. I joined a blogging group initially but didn’t feel comfortable contributing because their content seemed too esoteric. I just wanted to write little snippets of life. The first epossums posts, from Conference Mania to Surfing Lessons were edited versions of my email stories. This is how epossums started and it has become more and more a daily record of story-able happenings in my life. These range from travel stories, personal interest stories, stories about family, cooking, and relationships. I generally become inspired to write when I see the funny side of life. Although this is not always the case. Since beginning, I have found that there is a community of bloggers out there who support each other’s writing. I am now pretty much hooked on writing as an outlet, particularly in this forum. Feedback from others out there in the blogosphere is inspiring and so is reading the work of others.
